Pediatric Penetrating Spinal Canal Injury by Glass Cutting caused Cauda Equina Syndrome: Case Report and Literature Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
A 9-year-old girl was stabbed by aquarium glass fragments in her back, which entered adjacent to the S1 vertebra and stayed within the spinal canal adjacent to the L5 vertebra. Surgical removal of the glass fragments in the acute phase was performed to decrease the risks of delayed complications associated with the presence of the sharp and pointed glass inside the spinal canal and cauda equina and nerve roots compression. Surgical intervention should be considered in patients with evolving neurologic deficits with the goal of decompressing the spinal cord and optimizing the recovery of function.

Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Caused by a Spinal Neurinoma at the Cauda Equina Level: A Case Report
Neurinomas are common space-occupying lesions located in the spinal canal. Many reports concerning their clinical characteristics, diagnoses, treatments, and operative results have been published. Some case reports have discussed spinal neurinomas located at the cauda equina level. However, there is little information on their natural history. Here, we report a case of spinal neurinoma located ...
متن کاملCauda Equina Syndrome Secondary to Complicated Diverticulitis
A 58-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with cauda equina syndrome and sepsis. The symptoms were attributed to a complicated episode of sigmoid diverticulitis. MRI showed that the diverticulitis had caused an intra-abdominal fistula to a presacrally localized abscess expanding into the spinal canal, compressing the cauda equina nerves. Although Hartmann's procedure was perform...
متن کاملCauda equina syndrome caused by a migrated bullet in dural sac.
Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is a serious neurological condition and the most common cause is a central disc herniation. Migration of a bullet down the spinal canal is uncommon. In this report, the authors present an unusual case of cauda equina syndrome caused by a migrated bullet in dural sac. The patient's cauda equina syndrome was related to possible compression of cauda equina resulting fro...
متن کاملCauda equina syndrome as the initial presenting clinical feature of medulloblastoma: a case report
INTRODUCTION Medulloblastoma is one of the most common pediatric brain malignancies. The usual presenting clinical features are related to posterior fossa syndrome or/and hydrocephalus. Cauda equina syndrome is a very rare presentation for this disease. CASE PRESENTATION We describe the case of a three-year-old boy with cauda equina syndrome as the initial presenting clinical feature for medu...
متن کاملCase Report A rare etiology of cauda equina syndrome
Fungal infections of the spine are very rare and usually seen in immunocompromised patients. Acute cauda equina syndrome presenting in an immunocompetent patient is usually due to a prolapse of the intervertebral disc. Infective pathology caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis with epidural collection can also have a similar presentation. We present a case of spinal epidural abscess caused by Asp...
